The system has a projection device (1) producing calibrating patterns on a projection surface (2). A positioning unit (5), controllable by a control unit (4), is provided for a camera device (3). The control unit controls a unit for automatic adjustment of the calibration based on the signals of the patterns received by the camera device so that predetermined objective function e.g. distortion free function, of projection is satisfied. The camera device is driven automatically to the position of the eyes of the operator. An independent claim is also included for a method for calibration of a projection e.g. head up display, on a projection surface e.g. windscreen, in a transport unit e.g. motor vehicle.
