PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photonic band gap fiber (PBGF) which has a wide waveguide band width and small transmission loss. SOLUTION: Disclosed is the PBGF which has many pores in a quartz part 10 along a fiber length direction. The PBGF has, in its clad, a pore periodic structure in an extended triangular lattice shape wherein a first pore array of many pores arranged at first gaps in one line, in fiber cross section and a second pore array of many pores arranged at second gaps twice as large as the first gaps so that the pores form a triangular lattice with the pores of the first pore array are arranged by turns, and also has a pore core 16 constituted by arranging many pores in a triangular lattice shape at fixed gaps.
