PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To intentionally introduce noise such as jitter into liquid droplet generation waveforms in a controlled/managed mode. SOLUTION: When an electromechanical-type liquid droplet generator having an electromechanical transducer is operated, upon apply of the liquid droplet generation waveforms to the electromechanical transducer in each of successive liquid droplet generation periods, waveform characteristics are varied for each liquid droplet generation waveform (113) while liquid droplets having substantially the same mass can be generated (111). The varied waveform characteristics are, for example, shapes of the liquid droplet generation waveforms, delay time at start, etc. The waveform characteristic variation pattern is, for example, a sine wave.
