PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of forming a high-grade image by performing dark noise correction stably regardless of temperature, photographing sensitivity, or the like; and to provide a drive method of the imaging apparatus in the imaging apparatus having a CCD capable of reading multiple fields. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises a CCD area sensor capable of reading multiple fields, a clamping means for clamping an image signal generated by the CCD area sensor, a clamp control means for controlling the operation of the clamping means, a detection means for detecting the temperature of the CCD area sensor, and a photographing sensitivity setting means for setting the photographing sensitivity of the CCD area sensor. In the imaging apparatus, the clamp control means controls the operation of the clamping means at least in a second field, based on the temperature or photographing sensitivity of the CCD area sensor in a still image mode.
