The device has a thermal treatment process such as a hardening and or a remuneration process. A rotary propelled pair of transportation rollers (2) is provided for the movement of the steel bars (1) in an axial direction. Further provided, independently of the pair of transportation rollers, is a propelled pair of auxiliary rollers (4) which moves the steel rollers on an overlaid axial rotating motion. The pair of auxiliary rollers is aligned transverse to the steel rollers and the two auxiliary rollers (4') are axially propelable into each other in reciprocating opposite directions.
