PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve focusing performance for an object to be imaged which has high luminance like a point light source. SOLUTION: An automatic focus adjusting device which obtains a relative focus evaluation value based upon an imaging signal corresponding to the position of a focus lens (S1202) and performs focus adjustment control so that the focus evaluation value becomes large, performs the focus adjustment control (S1207) so that the focus evaluation values becomes small when the ratio of a high luminance part in the acquired focus evaluation value is larger than a specified value (S1203).
