PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that suppresses increase in the residual potential, in repeated use of a photoreceptor and is capable of forming a high-definition image with high durability, and to provide a method for forming an image. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with an electrostatic latent image carrier, an electrostatic latent image forming means, a developing means, a transfer means, a fixing means, and a destaticizing means emitting light at a wavelength shorter than 500 nm, wherein the electrostatic latent image carrier has a photosensitive layer, comprising at least a charge generating layer and a charge transport layer on a support and contains an organic charge generating substance in the charge-generating layer and at least a charge transport substance expressed by Formula (I) in the charge transport layer. In the Formula (I), each of Ar<SB>1</SB>, Ar<SB>2</SB>represents an aromatic cyclic group which may have a substituent, each of R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>4</SB>represents an alkyl group, aralkyl group, vinyl group or aromatic cyclic group which may have a substituent, where at least two among R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>4</SB>are aromatic cyclic groups which may have a substituent, and R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>, and R<SB>3</SB>and R<SB>4</SB>may be coupled to form a ring.
