PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting polymer material which exhibits a light emission in a green to blue region with high luminance in a high light-emitting efficiency and has a long life, furthermore, and to provide an organic EL element and a display device which can be used for the simplification of a production process and for manufacturing a display device having a large area. SOLUTION: The polymer comprises a structural unit derived from an iridium complex, in which the iridium complex is obtained by reacting a ligand having a heterocyclic structure with sodium hexachloroiridate, and then reacting with a bidentate ligand having a polymerizable functional group in the presence of sodium carbonate.
