PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road surface detection device capable of preventing erroneous determination of a road surface state when car speed is extremely low or when a distance from a wheel speed sensor to a sensor ring becomes more than a specified interval. SOLUTION: It is possible to precisely detect wheel speed only when variation of the wheel speed is lower than a threshold value, and road surface state determination is only carried out when the wheel speed reaches a speed region by memorizing the speed region at that time. Consequently, it is possible to carry out the road surface state determination in accordance with the correct wheel speed only when precise wheel speed computation can be carried out by an integrated ECU. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent the erroneous determination that the road surface state is a bad road in spite of a fact that it is a good road. As a result of it, it is possible to make the road surface state detection device never to erroneously determine the road surface state when the car speed is extremely low or when the distance from a wheel speed sensor to the sensor ring becomes more than the specified interval.
