PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain high printing quality at a high speed by using many droplet masses (sizes). SOLUTION: A control device determines a marking pattern including at least marks of two sizes based on an input image signal and ejects single sized drops of a marking material corresponding to the smallest mark of the marks of at least two sizes on an intermediate substrate such that at least two of the single sized drops of the marking material are joined on the intermediate substrate to form another mark of the marks of at least two sizes.
