The hydraulic controller (1) has a regulated main pump (2) with which pressure medium can be delivered to a load and an independently regulated auxiliary pump (4) via which an additional quantity of pressure medium can be fed to the load. A feed line (10) leading to the load is connected via a non-return valve (32) opening to the main pump. The desired pressure value for the auxiliary pump is set lower than that for the main pump. An independent claim is also included for a method of operating an inventive device.
