PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for easily producing an optically active 3-hydroxyamino acid derivative in higher optical purity at a low cost. SOLUTION: The method for producing an optically active 3-hydroxyamino acid derivative comprises the formation of a 3-oxoamino acid derivative of formula (2) (R<SP>1</SP>is an alkyl, an aryl or a heterocyclic group; R<SP>2</SP>is a≥4C alkyl, a≥4C alkoxy, an aryl or a heterocyclic group; R<SP>3</SP>is an alkyl or an aryl; the alkyl, alkoxy, aryl or heterocyclic group in R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>3</SP>may have substituents) with a microbial cell and/or treated cell of a microorganism capable of stereospecifically reducing theβ-carbonyl group of the 3-oxoamino acid derivative.
