PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make file management easy even if the file is partly erased. SOLUTION: A video file to be recorded on an information recording medium is composed of extents being sequential blocks. A video object includes video object units (VOBU). The recording and reproducing video managing data includes the information of the size of every VOBU and the number of the video display screen as the time information. The file system information includes the file entry (FE) and the FE includes allocation descriptors (AD). The AD includes the length and position information of the extent and allows presence of non-recorded areas in the video file. The area to be erased in the VOBU is specified by the time information excluding the VOBU which contains the boundary of the erasing ares specified in the VOBU. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
