METHOD FOR DETERMINING CARBON SOURCE ON BENZENE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining a carbon source on benzene based on a measurement value on the stabilized carbon isotope ratio (13C/12C) of the benzene in the atmosphere. SOLUTION: The stabilized carbon isotope ratio (13C/12C) of benzene contained in air taken in a prescribed area is measured to calculate aδ13C value (permillage deviation of the ratio of a carbon isotope in a specimen from the ratio of a carbon isotope in an international standard substance) from a measurement result thereof. The benzene is determined to be a benzene whose carbon source is coal if theδ13C value ranges between -23 to -26 per mill while the benzene is determined to be a benzene whose carbon source is petroleum if theδ13C value ranges between -27 to -29 per mill. In addition, the calculated value ofδ13C is a value with the effect of benzene-containing general atmosphere excluded therefrom. Fig. 1 is an example of an analyzer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
