PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material suitable as a component for a liquid crystal composition having a small refractive index anisotropy (Δn) and a large dielectric constant anisotropy (Δε) at the same time and a practical liquid crystal composition. SOLUTION: The new liquid crystal compound has a 2-naphthyl-1,3-dioxane skeleton represented by general formula (I).
