PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a long chain alkylaldehyde having a branch at the 2-position in high yield and high selectivity. SOLUTION: The method for producing a long chain alkylaldehyde having a branch at the 2-position, represented by general formula (2) comprises using an epoxide having a branch at the 2-position, represented by general formula (1), as the raw material and performing acid rearranging reaction of the epoxide by using a condensed acid of a metallic oxyacid as the catalyst.
