A comber has a large number of combing heads (X1 to X16) with a drive (A) for the various combing elements under central control (ST). Resultant sliver from the heads is combined (3) and deposited in a can (BA). Individual controllers (P1 to P16) and associated sensors allow each head to be individually decoupled for servicing without stopping production on the rest of the machine.
