A steam iron comprises two steam-generating chambers with leads and outlet channels to the sole plate (1). Steam for a steam jet opening above the sole plate and at the point of the iron is generated in the second steam chamber and a branched lead from this conducts steam to the sole plate and steam jet nozzle respectively.
