PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for an internal combustion engine for suitably controlling the internal combustion engine by easily and highly accurately estimating cylinder pressure information for the internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: The controller comprises a cylinder pressure sensor for detecting cylinder pressure Pc. In accordance with an ignition timing SA, a combustion starting timingθ0 and a combustion finishing timingθf as parameters to be control indexes for the internal combustion engine are determined (S102). In accordance with an actual value for the cylinder pressure Pc at predetermined two points, measured by the cylinder pressure sensor, information for a heat generation amount PVκis acquired (Step 104).
