PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent noise generation for a video image portion where the image frequency is low and a color difference is present. SOLUTION: The video signal processor comprises a first LPF 207 for extracting a luminance signal S207 from a video signal, an HPF 208 for extracting a high band signal component from the video signal, a circuit 11 for regulating the gain Ga of the high band signal component, an adder 209 for adding the output signal S11 from the gain regulation circuit 11 to the luminance signal S207, circuits 21-25 for generating a color signal S25 from the video signal, a second LPF 26 for removing the high band signal component from the color signal S25, and a circuit 27 for detecting variation in hue from the output signal S26 of the second LPF 26 wherein the gain of the gain regulation circuit 11 is overridden depending on the detection result from the circuit 27 for detecting variation in hue.
