PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent unnecessary data from being recorded when digital data recorded in a copy source recording medium is once converted into an analog signal and the analog signal is converted again into digital data to be recorded in the copy destination recording medium. SOLUTION: A table in which data representing the degree of a delay caused by both conversions is stored for each speed of the delay is stored in a data recorder in which the data recorded in the copy source recording medium is read to be subjected to D/A and A/D conversions to be stored in a buffer, and the data is recorded in the latter at a speed determined in accordance with the type of the copy source or copy destination recording medium. Then, the data recorder performs processing that specifies the degree of delay corresponding to the speed determined in accordance with the type of the copy source or the copy destination with reference to the table and processing in which recording to the copy destination is suspended until the data stored in the buffer reaches an amount corresponding to the delay and the recording is started when the data reaches the amount.
