PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing acrylic acid in high selectivity and high yield in which an existing acrylic acid-producing installation using propylene as a raw material can be diverted to an acrylic acid-producing installation using propane as a raw material by a simple technique. SOLUTION: The method for producing the acrylic acid comprises a step for subjecting the propane to vapor-phase catalytic oxidation reaction by using a first fixed bed reactor to form a mixed gas containing the acrylic acid, a step for subjecting the propane to vapor-phase catalytic oxidation reaction by using a second fixed bed reactor connected to the first fixed bed reactor in series to form a mixed gas containing the acrylic acid, and a step for collecting the acrylic acid from the obtained acrylic acid-containing mixture. In the reaction, catalysts having different acrylic acid-forming activities are used as the complex metal oxide catalysts possessed by the first and the second reactors, or the reactions are carried out in different conditions in the first and the second reactors.
