<p>Heatable calender roll with a hollow body through which a heat transfer medium can be passed comprises a wear-resistant peripheral surface provided by a functional layer that is applied by fusion welding and has a tensile strength such that tensile stress during operating is no more than half the ultimate strength of the welding material. An independent claim is also included for a calender for treating a web of material, especially a paper or cardboard web, comprising a stack of rolls with two or more rolls forming one or more nips, including at least one heatable hard roll as above.</p> |
