Fastener has a head (28) and body (26) with rectangular cross section. It is inserted through correspondingly-shaped penetrations in the thin wall (14) of e.g. a computer casing, and in the circuit board (10). It carries projecting resilient tabs with two perpendicular, angled surfaces. The longer of these, contacts edges of the penetration during insertion, causing the tabs to flex back. On reaching the shorter surface, the tabs spring out again. This clamps the circuit board and thin wall without play, between the head and the more-steeply inclined surfaces of the tabs. Circuit board is positioned away from the wall, by indentations (16) in the wall. These are pressed out toward the circuit board at the rectangular penetration locations. The fastener body includes an axial, threaded bore for a fastening screw (58). This is provided for a circuit board cover, and/or for additional components. The indentations house the heads of the fasteners, such that they are flush (at least) with the thin wall surface. Various alternative forms of tabs are described. They are held in two channels or slots in the fastener. The corresponding circuit board with rectangular openings is also claimed. Its conductive tracks are kept away from the fastening, with the exception of earthed tracks. The method of fastening is used in a computer casing (also claimed).
|
