PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing occurrence of image defects due to positive charges accumulated on an image carrier, and capable of enhancing image quality. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises: the image carrier; a charging section for charging a surface of the image carrier; an exposure section for forming an electrostatic latent image on the surface of the image carrier charged by the charging section; a developing section for forming a developer image by developing the electrostatic latent image formed by the exposure section; and a transfer section for transferring the developer image formed by the developing section onto a transfer element. The image carrier is configured such that a dark attenuation characteristic ratio of charges of which the polarity is reverse to that of charging voltage applied by the charging section is made≤95(%).
