PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized and lightweight power storage system for an automobile reduced in power loss even in the charging/discharging of a large current, which leads to the enhancement of the fuel economy of the automobile. SOLUTION: A power storage system for the automobile includes: a generator for generating power; a power supply line for supplying the power to a load; and a power storage device that is connected to the power supply line and can store and discharge power as required. The system includes as the power storage device a main battery and an auxiliary battery whose capacity is smaller than that of the main battery. The auxiliary battery is an organic radical battery utilizing the oxidation-reduction reaction of a stabilized radical compound. The auxiliary battery may be constructed of one module or may be so constructed that it includes two modules, an auxiliary battery for an output and an auxiliary battery for regeneration.
