PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing apparatus and a manufacturing method of a magnetic recording medium in which base crack at the time of a vapor deposition preparation stage and a vapor deposition process is not caused, the base is travelled stably, and manufacturing efficiency is excellent. SOLUTION: The manufacturing apparatus is provided with a supply roll 14 of a non-magnetic supporter 1. a rotary cooling drum 20, a crucible 17 housing a vapor deposition material 18, a maximum incident angle regulating mask 21A regulating the maximum incident angle of the evaporated vapor deposition material for the non-magnetic supporter, a minimum incident angle regulating mask 21B regulating the minimum incident angle, a pair of ear end part regulating masks 21C, 21D regulating vapor deposition for both end parts of a width direction of the non-magnetic supporter 1 plane. a shutter 23 which can open and close opening parts between each mask 21A, 21B, 21C, and 21D, and a winding roll 16. The ear end part regulating masks 21C, 21D are provided so that distance d<SB>A</SB>between its upper stream side end part and the cooling drum 20 is larger than distance d<SB>B</SB>between the lower stream side end part and the cooling drum 20.
