PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a basket-like space holder which shows improved performance in causing rainwater down flow along a side ditch or water channel to infiltrate into the underground. SOLUTION: The basket-like space holder 11 is composed of almost rectangular partition walls 1 which have sides that match in shape to a side face of a side ditch 7 having openings 9 and which have openings 2 sufficiently wide enough to allow incoming water to flow through the openings 2 vertically, and a mesh side partition 3 which is connected integrally to the sides that are opposite to the sides matching in shape to the side face of the side ditch 7, to the bottom sides, and to the top out of two pairs or a plurality of sides of the partition wall 1. The basket-like space holders 11 are set between the side ditch 7 and infiltrative layers 10. Rainwater is allowed to flow smoothly into spaces created by the basket-like space holders 11, where the rainwater is pooled consecutively to fill the entire part of the spaces, so that the whole of the mesh side faces in contact with water permeating layers can be used as effective infiltrative faces to drain the infiltrating rainwater.
