PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coater and a method for coating a coating object such as a sheetlike base material with a coating liquid while preventing coating defects from developing in an intermittent coating by which the coating object is coated intermittently with the coating liquid. SOLUTION: In an intermittent coating by which the coating object is coated intermittently with the coating liquid, the coating object such as a sheetlike base material can be coated with the coating liquid while preventing coating defects from developing by blowing a humid air to the vicinity of a coating liquid nozzle to prevent a solvent of the coating liquid from vaporizing and an agglomerated matter from being produced.
