PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having high durability and capable of outputting stable images, and to provide an image forming method. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with at least an electrostatic latent image carrier, an electrostatic latent image forming means 3, 5 to form an electrostatic latent image on the electrostatic latent image carrier, a developing means 6 to develop the electrostatic latent image with toner to form a visible image, a transfer means 10 to transfer the visible image to a recording medium, a fixing means to fix the transferred image on the recording medium 9, and a destaticizing means to destaticize residual charges on the electrostatic latent image carrier with light, wherein the destaticizing means irradiates the image carrier with light at a wavelength shorter than 500 nm, and the electrostatic latent image carrier comprises a support and a photosensitive layer, comprising at least a charge generating layer and a charge transport layer on the support and contains at least one kind of anthraquinone acridone pigment having a specified structure in the charge generating layer.
