PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect high voltage leak resulting from the soiling of the outside surface of a electrostatic coating apparatus without providing a special member. SOLUTION: A coating robot 1 has an electrostatic coating unit 6 attached to an articulated wrist part 5. In the electrostatic coating unit 6 having an end plate 45, power source is supplied to a high voltage generator 20 through a connector 50 fixed to the end plate 45 to be in a conductive state. A conductive wire 53 is connected to the connector 50 and the high voltage leak resulting from the soiling such as a coating material deposited on the outside surface of the electrostatic coating unit 6 is taken out through the conductive wire 53. When the detected high voltage leak is higher than a prescribed threshold value, the high voltage applied to a bell head 18 is controlled to be decreased. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
