PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Fabry-Perot etalon structure type gate switch which has a simple structure, responds with high speed, and has high extinction ratio characteristics. SOLUTION: The gate switch is equipped with: at least two etalons 102, 103 formed of a dielectric crystal with a cubic crystal structure and a quadratic electro-optic effect, and arranged on a substrate 101; a mirror 203 making incident light continuously incident on at least two etalons 102, 103; and a switching signal transmission portion to apply identical voltages to the dielectric crystal on the etalons. The incident light passes through the etalon 102, its advancing direction is reversed with the mirror 3 and passes through the etalon 103. Transmittances of the etalon 102 and the etalon 103 are equally controlled with a voltage applied from the switching signal transmission portion to control an output from the etalon 103.
