PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device which can adjust partially brightness of a discharge lamp. SOLUTION: A discharge lamp driving device drives the discharge lamp having a first electrode and a second electrode. The discharge lamp driving device includes a first driving part, a second driving part, an input part, and a control part. The first driving part is connected to the first electrode of the discharge lamp, and applies a first high frequency alternating voltage to the first electrode. The second driving part is connected to the second electrode, and applies a second high frequency alternating voltage to the second electrode. Contrast information indicating light and dark to be formed in the discharge lamp is input to the input part. The first driving part and the second driving part are controlled, based on the contrast information input to the input part to form light and dark in the discharge lamp by adjusting the first high frequency alternating voltage and the second high frequency alternating voltage.
