The method involves producing an electrical output signal by a sensor arrangement (7), for each of the detected directions of earth`s magnetic field, which locally influences a vehicle. An evaluation unit (8) evaluates the combined output signals to determine a magnetic field vector in the determined direction as a data record, where the vector is changeable by the vehicle. The record is suitable for further evaluation of the output signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an arrangement for detecting earth`s magnetic field locally influencing a vehicle (2) a use of the arrangement for detecting earth`s magnetic field locally influencing a vehicle for monitoring the allocation of parking areas in a multi-story car park.
