A straight ruler using a laser and a method for measuring length and projecting a line using the straight ruler are provided to measure accurate distances between positions to be measured regardless of distance and angles between the objects and a main body in a non-contact manner by using a laser beam. In a straight ruler using a laser, a beam scanner(20) installed on a main body(10) forms a beam spot having a predetermined scanning width on an object by scanning a laser beam. A position detection sensor(31) receives the laser beam reflected from the object and detects a position of the beam spot formed on the object. A signal processing unit drives the beam scanner and processes a signal detected by the position detection sensor. A display(11) receives the signal from the signal processing unit and displays data including a distance variation, and a measured distance value between the main body and object. An input unit(15) performs input of data including size adjustment of the beam spot and start/finish positions setting of a measuring distance. The beam spot is projected to the object with the scanning width corresponding to a measured distance or a known distance.
