<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system capable of automatically recognizing road parts in an image in order to generate a map using a satellite image or an aerial photographic image having a resolution of about 60 to 100 cm/Pixel. <P>SOLUTION: The road recognition system for recognizing a road in the satellite/aerial photographic image by using the satellite/aerial photographic image of the road and simple road data defining the road as a set of linear road vectors, includes a means for generating a road range image resulting from extracting a part showing the road in the image, a means for generating a ground object extraction image resulting from marking parts showing ground objects in the road range image, a means for extracting line components parallel with road vectors in the ground object extraction image to generate road area divided images resulting from dividing the ground object extraction image along the line components, and a means for outputting classification results of attributes of respective areas of the road area divided images on the basis of sizes and occupancy percentages of ground object included in the areas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
