<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of making unevenness of brightness inconspicuous by processing only a display area where an image persistence phenomenon occurs, without processing the whole screen. <P>SOLUTION: The main CPU 10 of a video display device includes: a video signal control part 100 for controlling a brightness level on the display picture on the basis of a set data relative to light-emission luminance set to RAM 11; and a processing area specifying part 101 for specifying an image persistence relaxing area and a timer setting part 102 for limiting a processing time. The processing area specifying part 101 specifies a processing area by remote control operation so as to surround a display area where the image persistence phenomenon occurs. The specified processing area is made to emit light at a brightness level set to be continuously decreased in level toward the peripheral part with the brightness level set to 100% at the center part.
