<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical instrument which is particularly suitable for endoscopic use. <P>SOLUTION: The surgical instrument (2004) particularly suitable for endoscopic use articulates an end effector (2016) by providing a laterally sliding member (2006) which is positioned in a proximal portion of a shaft and pivots the end effector to a selected side. Differentially opposing actuating forces (e.g., hydraulic, fluidic, mechanical) act against the laterally sliding member without blocking it by providing guidance mechanisms (2012, 2008) between the laterally sliding member and a frame of the shaft. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
