ORIENTED FILM AND POLARIZING PLATE USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film provided with both polarizer-protecting capability and retardation function as a polarizer-supporting base material suitable for a liquid crystal display of IPS (in-plane switching) mode and OCB (optical compensated bend) mode.

SOLUTION: This oriented film has a specified retardation characteristic and balanced three-dimensional refractive indicies, and obtained by stretching in at least one direction a film made by melt extrusion casting of a copolymer containing 1-99 mol% maleimides (a) in which a hydrogen atom bonding to a maleimide nitrogen is substituted by a monovalent aromatic group and 1-99 mol% at least one monomer component (b) selected from the group consisting of acrylates and methacrylates.
