ZnS SINTERED COMPACT AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a ZnS sintered compact capable of being sintered under a low pressure in a short time and a ZnS sintered compact having a high optical transmissivity in a far infrared region.

SOLUTION: The ZnS sintered compact has a ZnS content of ≥99.2 mass% and contains a compound consisting of an IA group element of ≤0.8 mass%. It has an average particle diameter of ≤1 μm and a density measured by an Archimedes method of ≥98%. Preferably, the ZnS sintered compact has a fracture strength of ≥120 MPa and an optical transmissivity by an infrared ray with a wavelength of 10 μm ≥70%.
