PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a charge transfer device that improves the charge transfer efficiency and is capable of preventing color mixing, when charge reading in the charge transfer device reading and transferring the charges accumulated in an optoelectric transducer. SOLUTION: The charge transfer device 20 is constituted of charge transfer channels 20a formed to a semiconductor substrate 100, and a large number of driving electrodes V1 to V6 formed to the upper sections of the charge transfer channels 20a. The potential of the charge transfer channels 20a, in the lower sections of each of a large number of the driving electrodes V1 to V6, is formed in a slope shape deeply inclined toward the direction of a charge transfer, under the state in which each of a large number of the driving electrodes V1 to V6 is supplied with specified pulses. When an exposure period is finished, a potential barrier is formed while using driving pulsesϕV3 andϕV4 supplied to the driving electrodes V3 and V4 at time t1 as L. The driving electrode V1 is supplied with reading pulses, while the driving electrode V5 is supplied with offset pulses, as using the driving pulsesϕV5 supplied to the driving electrode V5 adjacent to the downstream side in the direction of the charge transfer of the driving electrodes V3 and V4 as L at time t2.
