PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a programming device for arc welding with which the presentation of welding conditions in arc welding can be easily performed. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a data base storing means 13 for storing the data base of welding which is arranged so that the information which shows the state of welding can be retrieved, input means 15 for inputting the gap width between workpieces to be joined to each other in a designated welding place 10 by an operation program, simulation result storing means 14 for executing the operation program, periodically obtaining the executing line of the operation program, elapsed time and the position and attitude of a robot at that time from the simulation result and storing them, reference surface calculating means 16 for calculating the reference surface where is the reference for calculating a target angle and an angle of advance from the positions and attitudes of the robot in stored three or more places, welding parameter calculating means 17 for calculating the target angle and the angle of advance from this reference surface and calculating means 18 of the amount of penetration for calculating the amount of the penetration of the workpiece from the target angle and the angle of the advance and the width of the workpiece gap.
