PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which has quality free of a display defect and high reliability by preventing concentration of impurities and leakage of water into a liquid crystal due to dew formation on a surface of an alignment layer. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is constituted by arranging a first substrate SUB1 which has thin film transistors for pixel selection on an internal surface and a second substrate SUB2 which has color filters FIL of a plurality of colors opposite each other, sticking the substrate together with a sealant around a display area of the second substrate SUB2, injecting the liquid crystal LC into a gap between the first substrate SUB1 and second substrate SUB2 through the liquid crystal alignment layer CM, and then sealing a liquid crystal injection hole with a sealing material. Silicon oxide films IN are provided on internal surfaces of the first substrate SUB1 and second substrate SUB2 that come into contact with the liquid crystal alignment layer CM to prevent concentration of impurities and leakage of water into the liquid crystal due to dew formation on surfaces of the liquid crystal alignment layer CM.
