PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift device of an automatic transmission capable of locking a shift lever and preventing the drive of a vehicle when a driver has no intention of operating the shift lever. SOLUTION: A sensor unit 16 for detecting whether or not a part of a hand of a driver is placed on a convex part 2b for placing a part of the hand of the driver is provided on the convex part 2b. When a control device receives a signal for indicating the condition that a part of the hand of the driver is placed on the convex part 2b from the sensor unit 16, the control device outputs the unlocking signal to a shift lever locking mechanism to perform the unlocking control of the shift lever 5. When the control device receives no signal for indicating the condition that a part of the hand of the driver is placed on the convex part 2b from the sensor unit 16, the lock signal is output to the shift lever locking mechanism to perform the locking control of the shift lever 5.
