PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an autonomous traveling device capable of improving erroneous detection caused by multiple reflection, even if there are a two-faced wall with respect to the body. SOLUTION: The autonomous traveling device has a plurality of ultrasonic sensors 2 and 3, a transmitting means 4 for driving the ultrasonic sensor 2, an amplifying means 8 for amplifying received signals of the ultrasonic sensor 3, a standard voltage setting means 6, a comparison means 7 for comparing the standard voltage and amplifying means 8, a clocking means 9 for clocking a progress time after transmitting ultrasonic waves, a distance-determining means 11 for perceiving a distance between the body 1 and obstacle, and a control means 5 for controlling the transmitting means 4 and standard voltage setting means 6 by receiving the output of the distance-determining means 11. The control means 5 changes the transmitting method of the transmitting means 4, in response to operating conditions of the body 1 and the output of the distance-determining means 11. Thus, when the body operates, while it is surrounded by the wall and obstacle, erroneous detection of the obstacle due to multiple reflection caused by the nearby existing wall and obstacle can be improved.
