PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insulator and an internal combustion engine attaining at least one of improving heat insulation performance and sound insulation performance and absorbing a part of energy generated on vehicle collision. SOLUTION: The insulator 10 is attached to an exhaust manifold 3 of an internal combustion engine 2 mounted on a vehicle 1 for the purpose of heat insulation and sound insulation. The insulator 10 is manufactured from foamed aluminum and has minute spaces dispersed inside. A density of the insulator 10 at least on a front L side of the vehicle 1 is higher than density of other portions. This improves the heat shield performance and the sound insulation performance.
