PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for detecting residual fuel quantity capable of accurately measuring residual fuel quantity and usable in common for an injection system of a diesel engine lubricated by fuel such as gas oil using fuel such as gas oil as lubricant. SOLUTION: The device for detecting residual fuel is provided with a total fuel quantity calculation means calculating total fuel quantity Qa in a fuel circulation system including a fuel tank 2, an oil pan 3 and a fuel supply route 4 and the like, a necessary lubricating fuel quantity calculation means calculating lubricating fuel quantity C necessary in an engine lubricating system 7, and an operation part (ECU 20) calculating residual fuel quantity Q which can be supplied to an injection system 12 by subtracting lubricating fuel quantity C calculated by the necessary lubricating fuel quantity calculation means from total fuel quantity Qa calculated from the total fuel quantity calculation means. The operation part 20 calculates lubricating fuel quantity C from engine rotation speed and calculates residual fuel quantity which can be supplied to the injection system 12 by subtracting the same from total fuel quantity Qa.
