PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and widely applicable image processing method and apparatus having a high precision of measurement that carry out an image processing on a liquid coating for use in measuring the quantity of a dot-shaped liquid coating formed by applying a liquid such as a resin on an object in a manner to form a dot-shaped coating. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus is equipped with an imaging device 1, a ring shaped illumination 2 disposed so as to surround the circumference of the imaging device 1 or an incident light to the imaging device 1, and an arithmetic image processing unit 5 that processes image signals captured by the imaging device 1, which apparatus is used for measuring the quantity of a liquid coating 20 having a convex liquid surface disposed on an object namely a substrate 10. The measurement of the quantity of the liquid coating 20 is carried out by first causing the imaging device 1 to capture a reflected image of the ring-shaped illumination 2 reflected by the convex liquid surface of the liquid coating 20, and subsequently causing the arithmetic image processing unit 5 to calculate the dimensions of the image of the ring-shaped illumination 2 captured by the imaging device 1.
