PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus, obtaining a suitable observation image according to an observation environment by changing the light emission timing even in the case of color imaging with area sequential illumination. SOLUTION: Light emitting diodes 26a, 26b, 26c emitting light in red, green and blue are housed in the tip part of an endoscope 2 having a built-in CCD 18, and connected to an LED driver 28 in a pulse lighting device. The LED driver is connected to a timing generator 41 for controlling the operation timing with a driver 30 for driving the CCD 18, and the timing generator 41 is further connected to a drive change-over switch 29. The pulse lighting time of the LED 26a, 26b, 26c is changed through the LED driver 28 by the change-over operation of the drive change-over switch 29, and according to the change, the exposure time of the CCD 18 is controlled. Further, the signal processing for an output signal of the CCD 18 is controlled by the timing generator 41, and according to the working environment, the exposure time can be easily changed.
