The unit has a bulk material collecting area that is formed by side walls (2) and a back part (3). A front bulk material receiving unit (5) is formed by toothed units (4). A protective cap (8) is provided at the side of the toothed units in the area of the side walls. The cap is fixed in its position by a protection unit (12) that is arranged outside of the respective toothed units and on the side of the side walls, where the cap is exchangeable. The cap is formed by a hard cast iron material such as wear-resistant and weldable heat-treated steel.
